Jeffrey Sachs, an economics professor at Columbia University, said in an interview with Malaysian newspaper The Star that the U.S. failure to work with China to fight the virus has become major geopolitical problem. Sachs, who heads the Lancet COVID-19 Commission, said China has done an excellent job of suppressing the pandemic, while Americans have failed to follow basic rules and protocols to curb the disease by putting personal behavior ahead of the social good. Sachs also blamed rich countries for not generously sharing their knowledge, especially on vaccines, and the global financing system for providing too little support to the developing world.
